Ontario is changing the rules of the road to provide a greater incentive to new and young drivers to drive responsibly, obey the conditions of their licence class and the rules of the road, and to prevent first-time impaired driving offenders from becoming repeat offenders.
As of August 1,2010, the following rules apply to new and young drivers:
- All drivers 21 and under must maintain a zero blood alcohol concentration level while driving; and
All novice drivers in the Graduated Licensing System (GLS) will face escalating sanctions for repeat violations of their GLS conditions or convictions for any Highway Traffic Act offences that carry 4 or more demerit points.
