Freedom of Information and Privacy Office

Information that you need from the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) can in most instances be obtained simply by contacting the appropriate MTO office. If you're unable to obtain satisfaction from the usual sources of information, the Freedom of Information and Privacy Office is a "one-window" bilingual service to help access MTO information under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA).

The Freedom of Information and Privacy Office also co-ordinates MTO's participation in appeals, inquiries and investigations by the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario.

How to Make a Request

You may send a written request, stating whether you are requesting access to information or requesting a correction to your personal information, to the Office and address provided below. Your written request should provide as much detail as possible (driver's licence number, dates, location, etc.) to assist the Ministry in locating the records. Please also include your address and day time contact information.

Note: If you are requesting correction to your personal information, please provide a detailed description of the personal information to be corrected, the desired correction and, if appropriate, attach any supporting documentation. You will be notified if the correction is not made and you may require that a statement of the disagreement be attached to your personal information.

A $5.00 application fee (cheque or money order made payable to the Minister of Finance) must accompany your request for access to information/correction to personal information. As well, there may be additional fees for: the time required to locate and prepare records; photocopying; and shipping.
