Born in Cork, Ireland, Linda Jeffrey emigrated with her parents as a child and grew up in Ontario. She has been an active member of the Brampton community since moving there in 1983.
Linda was first elected municipally in 1991 and served four successful terms on Brampton City Council.
In 2003 she became the first female candidate elected to represent Brampton, at the Provincial level, in the riding of Brampton Centre. She was re-elected in 2007 as MPP for the riding of Brampton Springdale.
Since her arrival in the Provincial legislature she has spearheaded three separate attempts, through Private Members Bills, to change Ontario laws to mandate sprinkler systems in all new residential construction. Mrs. Jeffrey’s efforts have significantly raised awareness about fire safety and the benefits of residential fire sprinkler systems. As a result, the government recently introduced an amendment to the Building Code to require new multi-unit residential buildings over three stories to have sprinkler systems as of 2010.
In addition to her duties as MPP, Mrs Jeffrey serves as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Transportation; and Chair of the Standing Committee on General Government.
Linda and her husband, John, have three grown sons and a golden retriever.
