Instead of the TDL, a confirmation slip will be issued to the driver. If you are eligible for a new driver's licence card, it will be mailed to you within 90 days. If you have not received a new driver's licence in the mail by this time or if your driver's licence is about to expire, visit a ServiceOntario Driver and Vehicle Licence Issuing Office and you will be issued a TDL if you are eligible for one. If you do not attend a ServiceOntario Driver and Vehicle Licence Issuing Office prior to this date, a fee may apply. Please note, if you require a TDL when you are changing your address, advise the customer service representative at the time of your transaction and one will be issued to you.Changing your name (no charge)You must notify the ministry within six days of changing your name. When a person is married, the married name is considered an assumed name. You may change your married name with the ministry when you receive your government issued marriage certificate. The six-day rule does not apply in this case. Take the appropriate original documents (see chart below) and your current licence to a ServiceOntario Driver & Vehicle Licence Issuing Office. A new photograph will be taken and you will get a temporary licence to use until your permanent one is mailed to you.
