Medical Review Section

Introduction

The Medical Review Section of the Ministry of Transportation is responsible for the delivery of medical review programs including suspending driving privileges for drivers found to be unfit due to medical reasons and reinstating driving privileges for those individuals deemed to meet the medical standards.

In 2010 the Medical Review Section processed 199,400 medical reports. This includes:

• Mandatory physician and optometrist reporting
• Cyclical reporting for commercial drivers
• Vision Waiver Program
• Remedial Measures Program

In addition, in 2010, Medical Review staff responded to approximately 201,000 telephone calls.
