The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) will provide NVIS to companies that manufacture/import trailers. Companies that manufacture/import more than 500 trailers annually are responsible for reproducing their own NVIS from a sample provided by the MTO.

To request one sample NVIS, or if less than 500 are required, we require a written request, on company letterhead, that clearly indicates the following information:

  1. Name and address of manufacturer or importer.
  2. Type of vehicles manufactured or imported.
  3. Quantity of blank NVIS required.
  4. National Safety Mark*. A copy of the National Safety Mark, obtained from Transport Canada, must accompany the request. (Please note that the NSM is only issued to Canadian manufacturers.)

* If the vehicles meet the federal safety requirements, Transport Canada may then issue a Ministerial Authorization authorizing the manufacturer to affix an assigned National Safety Mark (NSM) to the vehicles. Each company gets their own unique NSM.

If you do not have a National Safety Mark the manufacturer should contact:
