Replacing Regular PlatesIf your plates have been lost, stolen or damaged, bring the following into a Driver and Vehicle Licence Issuing Office:
Replacing Personalized PlatesPlease follow the instructions for REGULAR PLATES above. A set of regular plates is issued at no charge for you to use on your vehicle until your personalized plates are manufactured and received. You must wait six months before the stolen personalized plates can be replaced. When the personalized plates arrive, bring the following into a Driver and Vehicle Licence Issuing Office:
Replacing your Validation StickerThe ministry will replace validation stickers that have been lost, stolen, damaged or removed by enforcement staff. You may require a Safety Standards Certificate or mechanic's signature on the inspection form if the sticker was removed by enforcement staff. Visit a Driver and Vehicle Licence Issuing Office to complete an Application for Registration. Bring the damaged sticker (if applicable), vehicle permit, name of insurance company and policy number, and reason for requesting a replacement. Replacing your Vehicle PermitA vehicle permit can be replaced/re-issued in the name of the current owner recorded on the Vehicle Registration System. If plates are attached to the vehicle, the permit issued will contain both the plate and vehicle portions. For an unplated vehicle, you will also receive a permit with both portions but the plate portion will not have any information about the plate/plate owner. To replace a permit for a vehicle registered to you, visit a Driver and Vehicle Licence Issuing Office and complete an Application for Registration. Please bring proof of personal identification. For information on replacing a permit for a vehicle not registered in your name, or you are the vehicle owner, but are outside Ontario please contact the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Call Centre at 416-235-2999 or toll free at 1-800-387-3445.
