8 Woodroffe S-W ramp realigned/straightened with tie-in further north Imperceptible (0-2dBA) sound level decreases to residents in NW quadrant (Rembrandt Rd) due to straightening of ramp None -
9 Queensway widening to 8 lane cross section (2 new lanes) Imperceptible (0-3dBA) sound level increases None Any reductions in stop and go traffic, from improved highway operation, will provide acoustical benefits (i.e. reduced sound levels)

Mainline Segment: Woodroffe Avenue to Maitland Avenue

Location Number TPA Roadway Modifications Sound Level Change
Increase / Decrease
Mitigation Effort Required Additional Comments
10 Woodroffe E-N ramp closed, Bus Only lane Imperceptible sound level decreases for residents on Fairlawn Ave. and Queensgrove Road, currently shielded by a noise barrier None This ramp closure provides positive benefits for residents
11 Woodroffe S-E ramp slight shift south and extension easterly Imperceptible (0-2dBA) sound level increases to residents in SE quadrant (Killeen Ave, Checkers Rd., Bel-Air Dr.) None -
12 Maitland E-N/S ramp realigned north to a tee connection Imperceptible (0-2dBA) sound level increases to residents in SE quadrant (Killeen Ave, Checkers Rd., Bel-Air Dr.) None -
13 Maitland E-N/S ramp realigned north to a tee connection Imperceptible (0-2dBA) sound level increases to residents in SE quadrant (Killeen Ave, Checkers Rd., Bel-Air Dr.) None Barrier relocation due to ramp modifications
14 Maitland Ave widening to the east (toward St. Basil's church) with median Imperceptible (0-2dBA) sound level increases to residents in NE quadrant (Rex Ave., Ernst Ave.) None -
15 Queensway widening to 8 lane cross section Imperceptible (0-3dBA) sound level increases None Any reductions in stop and go traffic, from improved highway operation, will provide acoustical benefits (i.e. reduced sound levels)

Mainline Segment: Maitland Avenue to Island Park Drive

Location Number TPA Roadway Modifications Sound Level Change
Increase / Decrease
Mitigation Effort Required Additional Comments
16 Maitland N/S-E ramp - south shift and extension No noise sensitive area None -
17 Maitland W-N/S ramp - tighter radius No noise sensitive area None -
18 Carling W-E/N/S ramp extension No noise sensitive area None -
19 Carling E/N/S-W ramp extension No noise sensitive area None -
20 Carling E/W/N/S realignment No noise sensitive area None -
21 Kirkwood N/S-E ramp shift north No noise sensitive area None -
22 Carling S-E ramp extension No noise sensitive area None -
23 Island Park E-N ramp closure Ramp closure provides an imperceptible (0-2 dBA) sound level decrease to residents in the area. (Island Park Cr.) None -
24 Island Park/Merivale Rd north - construction of a roundabout Construction of a roundabout eliminates stop and go traffic, which reduces noise levels None -

Mainline Segment: Island Park Drive to Rochester Street

Location Number TPA Roadway Modifications Sound Level Change
Increase / Decrease
Mitigation Effort Required Additional Comments
25 Parkdale Avenue W-N/S ramp extension No noise sensitive area
(residents already shielded by barrier)
- Relocation of existing barrier
26 Parkdale N/S-E ramp - no improvements (see comments) - - The gap in the noise barrier at Parkdale NS-E ramp should be infilled to avoid noise from filtering through the gap to residents on Reid Ave. There is an existing rock cut where the barrier is to be placed. Property may be required to construct the short section of barrier.
27 Parkdale E-N/S ramp realignment south of Westmount Ave Ramp realignment decreases noise levels for residents in this area (Parkdale at Westmount) Replace existing wooden barrier and extend on north side of relocated ramp, to provide effective overlap with existing steel barrier on freeway shoulder.

Mainline Segment: Rochester Street to Metcalfe Street

Location Number TPA Roadway Modifications Sound Level Change
Increase / Decrease
Mitigation Effort Required Additional Comments
28 Bronson W-NS ramp extension and turn lanes added Imperceptible (0-3 dBA) sound level increases for residents in SW quadrant
Imperceptible (0-3 dBA) sound level decreases for residents in SE quadrant (Imperial Ave)
- Removal of Board of Education building requires the continuation (westerly) of the noise barrier at the freeway shoulder because noise levels will no longer be reduced by the sheiding of the building.
29 Closure of Lyon Street EN-W ramp Imperceptible (0-3 dBA) sound level decreases for residents on Catherine Street None -
30 Metcalfe E-WNS ramp realigned north No noise sensitive area None -

Mainline Segment: Metcalfe Street to Riverside Drive

Location Number TPA Roadway Modifications Sound Level Change
Increase / Decrease
Mitigation Effort Required Additional Comments
31 Queensway widening to 8 lane cross section at Rideau Canal crossing (2 new lanes) Minimal (0-3 dBA) increase to residents on Echo Drive - Relocation of existing steel barrier at freeway shoulder
32 Nicholas W-S ramp realigned further east and extension Imperceptible (0-3 dBA) sound level decreases for residents on Hawthorne Ave/Concord Ave - Barrier relocation at ramp improvements
33 Nicholas W-N ramp realigned south Imperceptible (0-3 dBA) sound level increase for residents on Hawthorne Ave./Concord St. None -
34 Nicholas S-E ramp lane added No noise sensitive area None -
35 Nicholas N-W ramp extension Imperceptible (0-3 dBA) increase to Harvey Street residents - Relocate existing steel barrier for ramp improvements
36 Queensway widening to 8-lane cross section (2 new lanes) Imperceptible (0-3 dBA) sound level increases None Any reductions in stop and go traffic, from improved highway operation, will provide acoustical benefits (i.e. reduced sound levels)

Location Number TPA Roadway Modifications Sound Level Change
Increase / Decrease
Mitigation Effort Required Additional Comments
38 Median widening only - None Minimal effect on noise sensitive receivers at 417 split

Mainline Segment: Ottawa 174 - east limit

Location Number TPA Roadway Modifications Sound Level Change
Increase / Decrease
Mitigation Effort Required Additional Comments
39 Queensway widening to 6-lane cross section - None -

Notes:

In any other areas where the existing noise barrier requires relocation due to impacts related to the construction of the TPA, MTO will replace, where feasible, the barrier with 5 m high concrete barrier. The use of absorptive barrier face is recommended.

There is existing wooden acoustic barrier north of the freeway from Parkdale Ave. to Rochester Ave. The wooden acoustic barrier, which is at the end of its service life, will be replaced with concrete, absorptive face, barrier.
