Notice of Public Meeting: Island Park Drive Interchange

Highway 417 Interchange with Island Park Drive

Highway 417, (Ottawa Queensway)
Preliminary Design Study and Environmental Assessment
from Highway 416 easterly to Anderson Road
MTO G.W.P. 663-93-00

The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) in partnership with Totten Sims Hubicki (TSH) Associates Limited and in consultation with the City of Ottawa and the National Capital Commission, is undertaking a Preliminary Design Study and class Environmental Assessment of the Ottawa Queensway (Highway 417) from Highway 416 easterly to Anderson Road.

The study is assessing the short and longer term needs of this section of the Queensway in terms of potential operational improvements and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in order to improve safety, enhance mobility and reduce congestion.

The Queensway study is intended to evaluate opportunities to optimize the use of the existing facility, while providing for the efficient movement of people and goods and reducing gridlock.

The Recommended Plan includes significant modifications to the Island Park Drive interchange. Implementation of the recommended plan would result in:

  • Provision of a deceleration lane for vehicles exiting at Island Park
  • Grading out and landscaping of the existing ramp
  • Relocation of the existing ramp to the west side of Island Park
  • A roundabout at the end of the relocated ramp
  • Access via roundabout to Merivale Road
  • Impacts to the existing wooded area
  • Relocation and reinstatement of existing recreational path
  • Landscaping of the interchange.
