Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) help deliver an integrated transportation network that supports the economic well-being and quality of life that Ontario families deserve.
Due to the large volumes of traffic using the Highway 401/Highway 3 corridor, congestion is frequently experienced in the area.
The Ministry of Transportation currently has two cameras installed under the Highway 3 overpass at Highway 401. The cameras provide real-time video to the Ministry of Transportation's London Communications Centre of traffic conditions on Highway 401 as it ends at Highway 3. Four variable message signs in advance of the area advise motorists en route of conditions ahead.
The ministry is extending the area of coverage by adding several more CCTV cameras on Highway 401 in order to maximize the effectiveness of ITS initiatives in the Windsor Gateway. Four to six new cameras will extend the ITS CCTV camera subsystem on Highway 401 over a distance of approximately seven kilometres between the Highway 401/Highway 3 interchange and 10th Concession Road in Tecumseh.
