Evaluation of Drainage Management Software
There are
numerous commercial software packages available to assist the drainage
practitioner in the design and analysis of hydrologic and hydraulic systems and
structures. The purpose of this web site is to outline MTO's requirements for
the use of computer models in the analysis and design of drainage facilities
for MTO projects or projects requiring an approval by MTO.
MTO has initiated a process for
conducting detailed evaluations of drainage software. The reviews look at:
- the capabilities of the different programs,
- their functionality and
- the requirements for their use in the analysis and design of
drainage facilities for MTO projects or projects requiring an approval by MTO.
The detailed
reviews for software evaluated to date are included on this site. The
assessment of acceptability of a computer model for MTO is based on the
acceptability criteria described in the MTO Drainage Management Manual (DMM,
1997). Please refer to the MTO DMM for details.
Submission requirements when using software already evaluated by
MTO are as indicated in the detailed review. Submissions to MTO using programs
not yet evaluated by MTO, require a summary of the program theory and it's
applicability to Ontario conditions as well as the input and output summaries
necessary to support the design/analysis. Please refer to the software
acceptability criteria in MTO DMM, 1997.
A search of available software was conducted as part of the
evaluation process. An alphabetical listing of
software, including a brief description of each program, is included on
this site. This list is by no means comprehensive. With time additional
software titles will be added. Click on the underlined text below to view a
list of software tools available for a specific type of drainage
analysis/design.
