Government announces project to resurface stretch of Highway 3

PORT COLBORNE - The award of a $2.4-million contract for selective resurfacing on a 14.2- kilometre section of Highway 3 was announced today by Transportation Minister David Turnbull and the Honourable Tim Hudak, MPP for Erie-Lincoln.

"In an increasingly global marketplace, good highways truly are roads to prosperity," said Turnbull. "The Ontario government continues to invest in safe and efficient highways to support jobs and growth across Ontario."

The contract was awarded to Hard Rock Paving Company Limited of Port Colborne. The project includes resurfacing of Highway 3 from Regional Road 3 (Long Beach Road) westerly to 1.3 kilometres west of Regional Road 4, excluding the Village of Wainfleet. Work also includes intersection improvements at various locations and upgraded lighting at the intersection of Regional Roads 23 and 24.

"This project is one of a series carried out over the past five years to upgrade this key route," said Hudak. "Work will ensure the highway's effectiveness and provide a safer ride for local residents, commercial traffic and vacationers alike."

Completion of this project is scheduled for mid-August 2000.
