OSHAWA - The award of an $8.1-million project to resurface 19 kilometres of Highway 401 westbound was announced today by Transportation Minister David Turnbull, Jerry Ouellette, MPP for Oshawa and John O'Toole, MPP for Durham.
"In an increasingly global economy, good highways truly are roads to prosperity," said Turnbull. "The Ontario government continues to invest in safe and efficient highways to support jobs and growth across Ontario."
The contract was awarded to Dufferin Construction Company of Oakville. The project is for resurfacing of the westbound lanes of Highway 401 from just east of Park Road in Oshawa, easterly 19 kilometres to the interchange of Highway 35/115.
"Resurfacing this section of freeway is an investment for the future," said Ouellette. "This project will enhance safety on Highway 401 for commuter, truck and tourist traffic heading in the Oshawa and Greater Toronto areas."
"Everyone from my riding of Durham uses this stretch of the westbound 401," said O'Toole. "G.M. employees, commuters to the GTA and tourists need a safe, first-class highway. This is good business and promotes safety."
Completion of this project is anticipated for late August 2000.
