BELLEVILLE - The award of a $828,504 project to repair the Moira River Bridge on Highway 7 was announced today by Transportation Minister David Turnbull.
"In an increasingly global economy, good highways truly are roads to prosperity," said Turnbull. "The Ontario government continues to invest in safe and efficient highways to support jobs and growth across Ontario."
The contract was awarded to MTM Restoration and Construction of Milton. The project is for concrete repairs, deck replacement and widening of the Moira River Bridge on Highway 7 located 11.7 kilometres west of Madoc (Highway 62).
"Upgrading the Moira River Bridge reflects the government's commitment to having a first-class highway network," said Turnbull. "I know businesses, residents, and vacationers in the Marmora-Madoc area depend on Highway 7, and I am sure they will be pleased with the results of this work."
While work is under way, traffic will be reduced to a single lane at the bridge - controlled by temporary traffic signals. The ministry requests the co-operation of drivers during the project.
Work is under way, with completion scheduled for mid-September 2000.
The Ontario SuperBuild Corporation is a $20 billion, five year initiative created by this government to build for the future by improving capital planning, priority setting and investment.
