BURLINGTON - The award of a $4.8-million project to upgrade a section of the Queen Elizabeth Way at Burlington was announced today by Transportation Minister David Turnbull and the Honourable Cam Jackson, MPP for Burlington.
"In an increasingly global economy, good highways truly are roads to prosperity," said Turnbull. "The Ontario government continues to invest in safe and efficient highways to support jobs and growth across Ontario."
The contract was awarded to Dufferin Construction Company of Oakville. The project is for resurfacing of the Queen Elizabeth Way from the south limits of the Burlington Bay Skyway, southerly to 1.4 kilometres south of the Burlington Street interchange. Work also includes construction of an additional northbound lane and realignment of the Eastport Drive off-ramp.
"This project will improve the ride for motorists and improve traffic operations at the Eastport Drive off-ramp," said Jackson. "It demonstrates the government's commitment to have a safe and efficient highway system for Golden Horseshoe residents and businesses."
Completion of this project is anticipated for late August 2000.
The Ontario SuperBuild Corporation is a $20 billion, five year initiative created by this government to build for the future by improving capital planning, priority setting and investment. The government's goal is to make the entire capital investment process more strategic, more responsive and more accountable. SuperBuild will facilitate the largest infrastructure building program in Ontario's history, so that the province's infrastructure is ready to meet the future needs of Ontario's people.
