"In an increasingly global economy, good highway s truly are roads to prosperity," said Turnbull. "The Ontario government continues to invest in safe and efficient highways to support jobs and growth across Ontario."
The contract was awarded to Graham Brothers Construction Limited of Brampton. The project is for the resurfacing of Highway 9 from just east of Albion 5th Line Road easterly to just west of Tottenham Road (Simcoe Road 10). Work also includes construction of eastbound and westbound passing lanes on Highway 9, west of former Highway 50, widening and repairs to the Humber River Bridge, repairs to the CP Rail overhead structure, as well as improvements and new lighting at the intersection of Highway 9 and former Highway 50
"The government recognizes that improving our primary highways is an investment for the future," said Tilson. "I'm certain that everyone driving on this section of Highway 9 will be pleased with the construction work and higher level of safety when the project is completed."
"The improvements to Highway 9 will greatly benefit Tottenham and all of South Simcoe," said Wilson. "This project is an example of our government's strong commitment to infrastructure in rural Ontario."
Work is scheduled for completion in December 2000.
