ADOLPHUSTOWN - Award of a $5-million project for reconstruction and landscaping on Highway 33, the Loyalist Parkway, was announced today by Transportation Minister David Turnbull.
"In an increasingly global economy, good highways truly are roads to prosperity," said Turnbull. "The Ontario government continues to invest in safe and efficient highways to support jobs and growth across Ontario."
The contract was awarded to Dibblee Construction Limited of Kingston. The project is for reconstruction of 12.3 kilometres on Highway 33 from just east of the Adolphustown Ferry Dock easterly to the Village of Conway. Work also includes enhancements to the heritage and natural characteristics of the highway.
"The Loyalist Parkway is one of eastern Ontario's most picturesque tourist routes," said Turnbull. "The work will enhance driver safety and improve the roadway for local residents, businesses and thousands of vacationers who visit the area each year."
Work is now underway, with completion in late summer of 2001.
This investment is part of the government's five-year, $20-billion SuperBuild initiative designed to build for the future by improving capital planning, priority setting and investment. The government's goal is to make the entire capital investment process more strategic, more responsive and more accountable. SuperBuild will facilitate the largest infrastructure building program in Ontario's history, so that the province's infrastructure is ready to meet the future needs of Ontario's people.
