OTTAWA - The award of a $516,650 contract for repairs to the Highway 7 overhead at Highway 417 was announced today by Transportation Minister David Turnbull and the Honourable Norm Sterling, MPP for Lanark-Carleton.
"In an increasingly global economy, good highways truly are roads to prosperity," said Turnbull. "The Ontario government continues to invest in safe and efficient highways to support jobs and growth across Ontario."
The contract was awarded to Holloway Philip Construction Limited of Milton. The project is for repairs to the Highway 7 overhead at Highway 417. Work includes concrete repairs, replacement of bridge joints, waterproofing and paving of the bridge deck.
During construction, traffic will be single-laned across the bridge. The ramp from Highway 7 northbound to Highway 417 westbound will also be closed and traffic detoured via Highway 417 to the Carp Road / 417 interchange. The ministry asks for the cooperation of motorists and apologizes for any inconvenience.
"The government recognizes that maintaining key highway structures is an investment for the future," said Sterling. "The repair work reflects the government's commitment to a first-class highway system for Ottawa and area residents."
Work is scheduled to start in early July, with completion in mid-October 2000.
This investment is part of the government's five-year, $20-billion SuperBuild initiative designed to build for the future by improving capital planning, priority setting and investment. The government's goal is to make the entire capital investment process more strategic, more responsive and more accountable. SuperBuild will facilitate the largest infrastructure building program in Ontario's history, so that the province's infrastructure is ready to meet the future needs of Ontario's people.
