ORANGEVILLE - The award of a $5.3-million project to improve the junction of Highway 9/10 was announced today by Transportation Minister David Turnbull and David Tilson, MPP for Dufferin-Peel-Wellington-Grey.
"In an increasingly global economy, good highways truly are roads to prosperity," said Turnbull. "The Ontario government continues to invest in safe and efficient highways to support jobs and growth across Ontario."
The contract was awarded to Armbro Construction Limited of Brampton. The project is for the reconstruction and widening of Highway 10 to four lanes from two lanes from 0.3 kilometres south of Highway 9 northerly 1.2 kilometres to just north of Broadway Street/Buena Vista Drive. Work also includes improvements at the intersection of Highway 9 and Highway 10, along with new traffic signals, lighting and overhead traffic signs.
"The government places great importance on having effective highways to serve the needs of growing communities like Orangeville," said Tilson. "This project will reduce traffic congestion and enhance driver safety for residents, commuters and business traffic alike."
Work is now under way, with completion in mid-November 2000.
This investment is part of the government's five-year, $20-billion SuperBuild initiative designed to build for the future by improving capital planning, priority setting and investment. The government's goal is to make the entire capital investment process more strategic, more responsive and more accountable. SuperBuild will facilitate the largest infrastructure building program in Ontario's history, so that the province's infrastructure is ready to meet the future needs of Ontario's people.
