BELLEVILLE - The award of a $4.8-million project to upgrade a 16.1 kilometre stretch of Highway 37 was announced today by Transportation Minister David Turnbull.
"In an increasingly global economy, good highways truly are roads to prosperity," said Turnbull. "The Ontario government continues to invest in safe and efficient highways to support jobs and growth across Ontario."
The contract was awarded to Warren Paving Limited of Belleville. The project is for resurfacing and widening on Highway 37 from south of Regional Road 7 at the community of Roslin northerly to the south limits of the Village of Tweed. Work also includes partially paved shoulders, intersection improvements, installation of traffic signals and new lighting at Concession Road 3.
"This project will ensure the reliability and safety of the highway for local residents, businesses and vacationers," said Turnbull.
Work is under way, with completion scheduled for early November.
This investment is part of the government's five-year, $20-billion SuperBuild initiative. The program is designed to build for the future by improving capital planning, priority setting and investment. The government's goal is to make the entire capital investment process more strategic, more responsive and more accountable. SuperBuild will facilitate the largest infrastructure building program in Ontario's history, so that the province's infrastructure is ready to meet the future needs of Ontarians.
