PORT PERRY - The award of a $1.6-million project to resurface 5.0 kilometres of Highway 7A was announced today by Transportation Minister David Turnbull and John O'Toole, MPP for Durham.
"In an increasingly global economy, good highways truly are roads to prosperity," said Turnbull. "The Ontario government continues to invest in safe and efficient highways to support jobs and growth across Ontario."
The contract was awarded to Miller Paving Limited of Markham. The project is for the resurfacing of Highway 7A from the junction of Highway 7/12 easterly to east of Water Street in Port Perry. Work will also include widening of the roadway to provide a left-turn lane at Perry Street.
"Maintaining key routes like Highway 7A sets the foundation for a first-class provincial highway network," said O'Toole. "Safe and reliable highway access is critical to the continuing growth of Port Perry's residential, business and tourist economies."
Work is scheduled to start in late August, with completion in late October.
This investment is part of the government's five-year, $20-billion SuperBuild initiative. The program is designed to build for the future by improving capital planning, priority setting and investment. The government's goal is to make the entire capital investment process more strategic, more responsive and more accountable. SuperBuild will facilitate the largest infrastructure building program in Ontario's history, so that the province's infrastructure is ready to meet the future needs of Ontarians.
