EGANVILLE - The award of a $2.2-million project to reconstruct 19.6 kilometres of Highway 41 was announced today by Transportation Minister David Turnbull.
"In an increasingly global economy, good highways truly are roads to prosperity," said Turnbull. "The Ontario government continues to invest in safe and efficient highways to support jobs and growth across Ontario."
The contract was awarded to Miwel Construction Limited of Stouffville. The project is for reconstruction of Highway 41 from 0.5 kilometres north of Highway 132 (Dacre) northerly to the south limits of the Town of Eganville. Work also includes roadside safety upgrades at several locations.
"The government places great importance on having safe and efficient highways," said Turnbull. "Upgrading this stretch of Highway 41 will benefit local residents, businesses and visitors to the area year-round."
Work is scheduled to start in early September, with completion in mid-October 2000.
This investment is part of the government's five-year, $20-billion SuperBuild initiative. The program is designed to build for the future by improving capital planning, priority setting and investment. The government's goal is to make the entire capital investment process more strategic, more responsive and more accountable. SuperBuild will facilitate the largest infrastructure building program in Ontario's history, so that the province's infrastructure is ready to meet the future needs of Ontarians.
