HAWKESBURY - The award of a $2.3-million project for resurfacing work on 36.5 kilometres of Highway 417 was announced today by Transportation Minister David Turnbull.
"In an increasingly global economy, good highways truly are roads to prosperity," said Turnbull. "The Ontario government continues to invest in safe and efficient highways to support jobs and growth across Ontario."
The contract was awarded to Dibblee Construction Limited of Cornwall. The project is for selective resurfacing on the Highway 417 westbound lanes, from Highway 17 westerly to 6.8 kilometres east of Prescott and Russell County Road 20 (Highland Road). Work will also include 11 kilometres of shoulder repairs at various locations.
"As we approach another winter, this vital work will provide a smoother ride and a higher level of safety for the people living and working in the area," said Turnbull. "Good highways are a top priority for our government."
Work is scheduled to start in early October, with completion in mid-November.
This investment is part of the government's five-year, $20-billion SuperBuild initiative. The program is designed to build for the future by improving capital planning, priority setting and investment. The government's goal is to make the entire capital investment process more strategic, more responsive and more accountable. SuperBuild will facilitate the largest infrastructure building program in Ontario's history, so that the province's infrastructure is ready to meet the future needs of Ontarians.
