Clark Nominates GO Board of Directors

TORONTO — Transportation Minister Brad Clark today announced his nominees for the new GO Transit board of directors.

"I am excited about the creation of the new GO Board to provide solid stewardship to GO Transit," Clark said. "I am nominating individuals from across the Golden Horseshoe with experience in municipal government, provincial government, and the private sector. I am confident that these individuals would provide excellent quality service for the customers of GO Transit."

The new GO Board will be responsible for providing leadership and direction to GO Transit. The nominees are subject to approval by the Standing Committee on Government Agencies.

GO Transit currently serves customers in the regions of Durham, York, Peel and Halton and in the Cities of Hamilton and Toronto.

As part of the ten-year, $9-billion transit plan announced by the Premier in September, the province committed to establishing an operating authority responsible for 100 per cent of GO Transit's operating and base capital funding. This will free up over $1-billion over ten years for municipalities in the GTA and Hamilton.

Those recommended for appointment to the GO Board include: Dr. Gordon Joseph Chong, (Chair); Allan F. Leach (Vice-Chair); Eldred R. King (Vice-Chair); David W. Guscott; Hugh Nicholson; William L. Sears; Jack Garner; W. Douglas Armstrong; Earl Rowe; Roger M. Anderson; Hazel McCallion; Joyce Savoline; William Fisch; Robert E. Wade; and Douglas Holyday.

"A seamless, integrated transportation system is key to continued economic growth and a good quality of life for Ontarians," Clark said. "I look forward to working with the new GO Board toward fulfilling this vision."
