TORONTO — A $2.5 million project for repairs to Highway 427 from the Queen Elizabeth Way to Highway 401 in Etobicoke was announced today by Transportation Minister Norm Sterling, Etobicoke Centre MPP Chris Stockwell and Etobicoke Lakeshore MPP Morley Kells.
"Our government's record investment in highway infrastructure is fueling economic growth throughout Ontario," Sterling said. "When completed, this project will enhance road safety and traffic flow."
This project has been awarded to AECON Construction & Materials Ltd. of Brampton. This contract is one of several planned for the rehabilitation of Highway 427 from the QEW to Highway 401. The contract includes repairs to pavement, shoulders and bridges at various locations on that section of highway.
"Initial improvements on this stretch of 427 will immediately improve driver safety," Stockwell said. "Our government has invested at record levels to ensure that 427 and highways across the province continue to keep people and goods moving safely and efficiently."
"Rehabilitating Highway 427 is a wise investment of highway dollars," Kells said. "I'm certain area residents, businesses and vacationers will be pleased with the increased level of safety when work is completed this fall."
Due to the nature of the work, lanes will be narrowed to allow room for work zones. Motorists should exercise caution when traveling this section of highway during construction.
Work on this contract is scheduled to start this month, and be completed by November 2002.
This investment is part of the government's five-year, $20-billion SuperBuild initiative designed to facilitate the largest infrastructure-building program in Ontario's history. Since 1995, the Ontario government has invested about $6.5 billion in highway capital projects.
