WAINFLEET — A $1.2 million project to reconstruct Highway 3 in the Village of Wainfleet was announced today by Transportation Minister Norm Sterling and Erie-Lincoln MPP Tim Hudak.
"This project will improve the condition of Highway 3 in this growing community," Sterling said. "The Ontario government is committed to supporting economic development that will strengthen our quality of life."
The contract was awarded to Hard Rock Paving of Port Colborne. The project involves the rehabilitation of the existing pavement on Highway 3 and the replacement of the Mill Race Bridge. This work is the final installment of a $15-million multi-year rehabilitation of Highway 3 through the Niagara area.
"The Highway 3 project will benefit Wainfleet area businesses and residents alike," Hudak said. "This government is committed to keeping people and goods moving safely and efficiently in Ontario."
Construction is scheduled to begin this summer and will be completed in the fall.
Due to the nature of construction, temporary traffic signals at the Mill Race Bridge and short-term, daytime lane closures will be required.
This investment is part of the government's five-year, $20-billion SuperBuild initiative designed to facilitate the largest infrastructure-building program in Ontario's history. Since 1995, the Ontario government has invested more than $6.5 billion in highway capital projects.
