BELLEVILLE — Transportation Minister Norm Sterling today announced funding support of $375,000 for a turning lane construction project in Belleville.
The funding will pay for 75 per cent of costs for the engineering and design of a 1.3 km two-way turning lane on Highway 62 (North Front Street), and Bell Boulevard south to College Street.
"These projects are prime examples of the province and municipalities working successfully together towards common goals," Sterling said. "These improvements will provide local residents, businesses and visitors with safe and efficient thoroughfares for years to come."
This funding is part of the Ministry of Transportation's $16 million 2002/2003 Connecting Links program that assists municipalities with capital projects on local roads that connect provincial highways.
The investment is part of the government's five-year, $20-billion SuperBuild initiative designed to facilitate the largest infrastructure-building program in Ontario's history. Since 1995, the Ontario government has invested more than $6.5 billion in highway capital projects.
