WINDSOR — Transportation Minister Norm Sterling today announced provincial funding support of $217,500 for a resurfacing project in the community of Windsor.
The funding will pay for 75 per cent of costs to resurface and perform catch basin repairs on the northbound lanes of Highway 3 (Huron Church Road) from Cleary Street to Labelle Street.
"This project is a prime example of the province and municipalities working successfully together toward common goals," Sterling said. "These improvements will provide local residents, businesses and visitors with safe and efficient thoroughfares for years to come."
This funding is part of the Ministry of Transportation's $16 million, 2002/2003 Connecting Links program that assists municipalities with capital projects on local roads that connect provincial highways.
Earlier this month, the federal and provincial governments announced an $880,000 joint investment to ease traffic congestion on Huron Church Road in Windsor, and improve the efficiency of the Windsor-Detroit gateway. The funding will support four projects recommended by the City of Windsor to improve the flow of cross-border traffic through the community.
"Ontario is committed to supporting the efficient operation of the Windsor-Detroit Gateway," Sterling said. "We will continue to work with the community and our federal and municipal partners to improve traffic flow in the community and at the border."
