Province announces $1.5 million for Lanark County roads

Investment supports road upgrades for 2003 Plowing Match

LANARK COUNTY —Transportation Minister and Lanark-Carleton MPP Norm Sterling today announced a $1.5 million provincial investment to assist Lanark County with the improvement of municipal roads in support of the 2003 International Plowing Match.

"This investment will improve local roadways in anticipation of the thousands of guests expected to attend the Plowing Match," said Sterling. "This event provides a unique opportunity to showcase Lanark County to a wide audience and offers the community immediate and long-term economic benefits."

The funding will support improvements to McArton Road, Ashton Station Road, County Road 11 and County Road 17.

"This funding will allow us to move forward with a number of local road improvements," said Warden Larry McDermott. "These projects will also improve safety and ease congestion for area residents, commuters and tourists during next year's Plowing Match."

Rural Expo 2003 - The Lanark County International Plowing Match and Farm Machinery Show will be held in the Township of Beckwith in September 2003.

This investment is part of the government's five-year, $20-billion SuperBuild initiative, designed to facilitate the largest infrastructure-building program in Ontario's history. Since 1995, the Ontario government has invested more than $6.5 billion in highway capital projects.
