BURLINGTON — The Eves government is investing $1.5 million for improvements to the QEW Skyway Bridge in Burlington, Transportation Minister Norm Sterling and Burlington MPP Cam Jackson announced today.
"Our government's record investment in highway infrastructure is fueling economic growth throughout Ontario," Sterling said. "When completed, this project will preserve the life of the bridge on this vital trade corridor."
The contract was awarded to Underground Services Ltd. of Bolton. The project involves the replacement of rusted steel sections of the Toronto-bound Burlington Skyway Bridge.
"The Skyway Bridge is critical to transportation infrastructure in our area," Jackson said. "This announcement is in keeping with our government's commitment to keeping people and goods moving safely and efficiently in Ontario."
Construction began in July and will be completed by the end of the year.
The province has invested a record $414 million in the rehabilitation and replacement of existing bridges across Ontario since 1995.
This investment is part of the government's five-year, $20-billion SuperBuild initiative designed to facilitate the largest infrastructure-building program in Ontario's history. Since 1995, the Ontario Government has invested more than $6.5 billion in highway capital programs.
