Expansion Projects 2012-2016
Widening Highway 7/8 through Kitchener
Construction crews have begun widening Highway 7/8 from four to six lanes between the Fischer-Hallman Road and Courtland Avenue in west Kitchener. Expanding the highway for 6.5 km will ease congestion during rush hour as commuters head to and from west Kitchener neighbourhoods.
Eleven bridges will be widened and repaired, and a new concrete median barrier will be built to separate eastbound and westbound lanes keeping traffic flowing efficiently and safely. The work begins this year with repairs to Fischer-Hallman Bridge. Work will move east in subsequent years, finishing in 2015.
