On the 54th Anniversary of D-Day, Highway 416 was officially named the Veterans Memorial Highway. Commemorating Highway 416 as the Veterans Memorial Highway is one small way of honouring our veterans, Thousands of Canadians have fought in defence of this great country and this commemoration is a sign of our respect to them.
The new signs were unveiled at a ceremony on June 6, 1998. The dark blue signs include "Lest we Forget" and a Highway 416 identifier. Approximately 200 veterans and guests were present for the ceremony.
