The Ontario Ministry of Transportation has now completed the construction of an 80 km four lane freeway from Highway 417 in Ottawa southerly to Highway 401.
The highway was constructed in two phases; highway 416 North and 416 South. Highway 416 North is on a new alignment from Century Road northerly to Highway 417. It involves 21 km of new four-lane freeway, five interchanges, seven km of service roads and 27 bridges.
Highway 416 South involved twinning 57 km (southbound lanes) of the existing Highway 16 from Century Road to Highway 401, eight interchanges, 29 structures, and 14 km of service roads.
