Traffic and Road Information System
(TRIS)
TRIS is an automated information distribution system designed to provide traffic reports for provincially maintained highways in the following Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and Niagara Peninsula Regions:
- Niagara
Hamilton and Wentworth- Halton
- Peel
- Toronto
- York
- Durham
TRIS traffic reports are available to the motoring public via the Internet, and to subscribers, via fax (primarily radio media). With an increasing demand for traffic information in the Greater Toronto Area and Niagara Peninsula, motorists can receive timely and accurate reports directly from the Internet or in their vehicles through commercial radio. The Ministry's COMPASS Traffic Operation Centre is the main communications centre for all provincially maintained highways in the GTA. COMPASS operators enter traffic event information into TRIS which, in turn, generates World Wide Web files and fax-ready traffic reports. TRIS traffic congestion information is constantly updated from the Highway 401 and QEW Mississauga COMPASS Advanced Traffic Management Systems for predefined sections along Highway 401 and the QEW in the Toronto and Peel Regions.
