HOV lanes operate on Highway 403, in both directions between Highway 407 and Highway 401.
An HOV lane operates southbound on Highway 404 from Beaver Creek (north of Highway 7) in York to Highway 401 in Toronto, and northbound from north of Highway 401 to Highway 7. At Highway 401, southbound HOV drivers are able to take a new HOV-only ramp to connect directly to the westbound Highway 401 collector lanes. Southbound Highway 404 HOV drivers who do not want to connect to the 401 WB collectors exit the HOV lane in advance to use the appropriate highway exit ramps along with general traffic.
Over 16 km of new HOV lanes on the Queen Elizabeth Way between Guelph Line in Burlington and Trafalgar Road in Oakville opened to traffic in November 2010.
4 km of new HOV lanes on Highway 417 eastbound opened November, 2009.
The province is considering the introduction of HOV lanes on other 400-series highways in south-central Ontario and Ottawa. HOV initiatives are among the alternatives considered at all stages of planning and design of highway improvements.
